Radioactive sources are widely used as part of sensors in SCADA systems in many fields of manufacturing. Although radioactive sources provide advantages in complex measuring environments, they also have the disadvantage that they require special attention when operating or maintaining the source. The Dutch government has set out strict directives on the use and storage of radioactive control sources.
